We have used many different cat litters over the years, but few have won the best cat litter award. Here are a the best 3 cat litters of those that we have used and some alternatives we would love to try.
Tidy Cats
With Tidy Cats we got recently a lot of experience. We’ve decided to move onto this brand instead of Ever Clean because of the scent or rather the less obvious scent of it. Ever Clean has a very clear scent to it and Tidy Cats has that less. Cats smell scents four times stronger than us humans and we also would like to cough a little less.
Tidy Cats Instant Action Clumping Litter is then also what we use on a daily and monthly basis at the moment. We got two cat toilets and two standby cat toilets for projects, resulting in a total of 4 toilets. That is a lot of cat litter used per month.
We are so far very happy with this cat litter and prefer this over Ever Clean. But Ever Clean was not a bad cat litter and when Tidy Cats is not available in the shops, we still shop for the other.
Ever Clean
This brand has a very course litter. Ever Clean is a clumping clay-based litter. There are blue dots in it, which is the absorbent part of the litter. We used Ever Clean for many years, until we got into more for the same amount of money. We had a special savings coupons deal, so by every 8 items bought, we got one for free.
The litter comes with a stronger added scent, even though some of them say they have none. All Ever Clean litters are a bit dusty, but not as dusty as the clear cheap brands. I am not a big fan of EverClean anymore and prefer TidyCats over it.
ökocat Natural Wood Litter
ökocat Natural Wood Litter is a natural and biodegradable litter. We would love to try this stuff out. We haven’t yet, because it is not easily available in our home country. Of course we could buy this over seas by ordering it online, but that might be a bit pricey concerning transport costs on weight and distance (120 USD just on transport).
ökocat Natural Wood Litter is made, as the name says, by the use of trees. The litter contains no chemicals, no added scents. If you are, like us, used to a lot of tracking and dust, than these types of litter contain much less dust and tracking will be thus less too.
Using this type of litter is going to be better for you and your cat(s) as it will not attack your respiratory system as much as most clay based litters do.
The material can be used quite long before the smells return and the litter needs to be replaced. Feces need to be scooped out daily, while urine just disappears within the litter. The smells are masked by the smell of the natural wood, but the scent is very faint and natural and not added.
