Here’s the ultimate product for ultimate lazy people! Are you a lazy cat owner that needs to be totally free of care taking? Want to sit on the sofa watching your TV shows and see the cats playing in the living room?
Then you should get yourself a Cat Tunnel!
This awesome designed cat tunnel is available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Variety for every cat and lots of play time fun for them to enjoy.
Cat tunnels are there for the cat that likes to hide, or run through a small gap at insane speeds. For extra fun, some tunnels come with holes on the sides, so that it is possible to hunt anything outside the tunnel or be hunted by other cats while in the tunnel.
The tunnel can easily be bend around tables, chairs and sofa’s for extra tunnel pleasure: You never know what comes after the next bend!
Some tunnels have built-in toys, such as mice dangling by a thread, but even if they come without, it is easy to take your cat toys with in the tunnel to play around with them.
Our kittens love these tunnels and play with them daily. Our adult cats love them too, but they don’t like to admit it. They play with the tunnel when we aren’t looking. How I know? Well they thought we weren’t looking, but I saw it and approved of it, from my lazy chair.
Various Designs & Colours
Amazon sells many of these cat tunnels in various colours and designs for every type of cat and cat preference. Want something that will blend in with nature, then you get one that has the tiger pattern or in army patterns, want something that cannot be overlooked then go for a bright colour.
Classic Straight
The Classic Straight tunnels can be made of a material that makes it impossible to bend. They stay in one position and can only be put together for cleanup. There are also the straight tunnels that are made of a more bendable iron material. These can actually bend around a small bend, like around your table or chair. Cats love variation in their play toys and might also put the tunnel themselves in the most impossible ways.
T-Split
Then there are the tunnels that are made in a T formation. It gives the cats an extra junction to watch for traffic coming from the right. Or perhaps they have to wait for the traffic from both left and right direction, because of the right of way. All in all, it is about fun between multiple cats or for one cat to have the prey hiding in either end.
Y-Split
You will also find tunnels in a more Y formation. They will still come with a hole in the middle but have a more directional outcome to it. Your cat(s) will be able to see around the bend on this one and have lots and lots of fun.
Fourway Crossing
Amazingly there are now also full crossings available for tunnel fun. I personally feel that crossings within dark tunnels are scary business. You would have to have a full stop in the middle and hope that no-one is coming for you.
Instructions On Cat Tunnels
Step 1. Get a Cat Tunnel
Amazon has many choices in cat tunnels. If you are just a beginner, you might want to go with the classic straight tunnel, such as the xxx. This tunnel can be put away in a small format (small ring) for storage, but unfolds to be a giant tube for your cat(s). It offers plenty of fun for your cats to have a tunnel experience. Having tunnel syndrome is not a bad thing for cats, they love tunnels and want to stay in it all the time.
Our kitten Nusse often takes her toys with into the tunnel and sits or sleeps there the entire day. When I deliver food in the bowls, she appears again at either end of the tunnel to collect the food, whereafter she returns to her tunnel. At other days she and her friends run at high speeds through them.
The next model up is perhaps the T-Split or the Fourway Crossing cat tunnel. These tunnels add extra challenges by multiple exits (or entrances) and the possibility for prey or predator to lure from either side. For us lazy sofa or lazy chair sitters, it just means more to watch and enjoy from our comfortable position far away.
As you can see above and below, both tunnels are extremely well-designed models for you and your cats pleasure.
Step 2. Install The Cat Tunnel
Cat tunnels tend to come in a box or at least strapped together within a bag. You will have to remove the packaging material first of all from the tunnel. Mind you, it doesn’t look like anything like a tunnel at first. Tunnels are usually folded in a tunnel-way into a single circular hoop. You need to remove the binding material, which is either pieces of textile or fancy velcro.
As soon as you have removed the binders, the tunnel will rapidly unfold into the room, leaving more time for your lazyness. Make sure the tunnel is nicely spread into the directions it wants to be. If your cat tunnel happens to have a dangling cat toy, make sure that toy is dangling properly.
Step 3. Sit Down And Relax
The third step is probably something you are very used to. You walk over to your relaxing spot, your dedicated sofa spot or your favourite chair. Take a good book or the remote to the TV and start zapping. Now it is time to relax. Or is it? Well if you have interest in your cats, you could also watch your cats from your favourite spot.
You probably won’t be doing what I do: pick up my video camera and photo camera. Rig up and get ready for a photo session. Lie down on the floor for epic shots on “cat-eye-level” for both still images as well as moving images. All to put on this website or to share with the watch-a-video-from-the-couch crowd on YouTube.
It is so funny how cats can be playing with their toys or in this case a cat tunnel and it is worth watching what they are doing or recording it on any type of camera to share with your friends or family.
Also For Outside Environments
Most of the designs also allow you to install the cat tunnel in an outside environment. Especially in summer time, it can be a great addition to the garden for your cats. If you happen to have a cat catio or a fenced garden, you don’t have to be worried about the safety of your cats, while they play in full speed with their cat tunnel.
Durable Material
The cat tunnels are generally made of a very durable material that withstand a lot of rough housing from your cats as well as water (rain, wet cats, nearby water spills) and can be easily cleaned with a cloth. Even though the cats can be wild with their new toy, it will withstand quite the clobbing and won’t break quickly.
They are often also washable, because it is made of polyester.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take this item on travel in a plane?
The tunnel can be collapsed into a very small package which fits in your hand luggage or luggage without any problem.
Are The Tunnels Washable?
Most tunnels sold on Amazon are washable. If you cannot wash them regularly, you can at least use a damp cloth to clean them.
Can I Use This Tunnel For My Dog/Hamster/Rabbit?
Yes, these tunnels will also work fine for animals of a similar size, such as small dogs, hamsters, rabbits etc. They are however built for cats and so you need to keep a cat’s size into account.
Can I Wash The Tunnel?
As all tunnels are made of polyester, they can be washed or at least cleaned.
Does It Collect Pet Hair?
Polyester does not attract hair. The hair will simply not stick to the material.
Add More Fun
If you are able to do some minor interaction with your cats (less lazy, that’s true) you can add some extra fun to your tunnel adventure. You can play with a toy on a stick with a rope, while they are running through the tunnel. Alternatively you could also add a toy inside the tunnel or sprinkle some catnip inside the tunnel. This can be especially helpful when your cats do not automatically feel the need to go tunnel playing when you install it.
Some cats might be scared of the new toy (every new change in a house of cats is scary and stressful), so you might need to encourage them to explore and play with it.
Conclusion
A cat tunnel is an excellent toy your cat needs. If you have never tried or dared to buy this extremely simple cat toy, then it is really time to do so today. Think of it! You don’t need to actively play with your cat, as your cat will use all their energy on this great new toy all by themselves.
It’s not just great for your cat(s) but also great for yourself. Now you can finally spend time on that good book you always wanted to read but didn’t get time to because you had to entertain your cat. You can finally complete that task without falling over your cat or you can sit down and relax and simply watch them go crazy going in and out of the tunnel or taking toys with inside it.
It is also an excellent toy for the more bush type of cat that needs or likes to hide in small places.
